Publication Ethics and Misconducts
The Journal of Communication and Da'wah is firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and strictly adheres to the principles set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Ethical conduct is essential to maintaining the integrity, credibility, and scholarly value of academic publishing.
All stakeholders involved in the publication process — authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher — are expected to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and responsibility in fulfilling their respective roles.
Principles of Publication Ethics
1. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to Journal of Communication and Da'wah are required to:
- Ensure originality: All submissions must represent original work. Plagiarism in any form — including self-plagiarism — is strictly prohibited.
- Provide proper attribution: All sources must be accurately cited and referenced in accordance with academic standards.
- Avoid simultaneous submissions: Manuscripts must not be submitted to more than one journal at the same time.
- Disclose conflicts of interest: Authors must declare any potential financial or personal conflicts that could influence the results or interpretation of their research.
- Correct errors: If an author discovers a significant error in their published work, they must promptly notify the editorial office to enable correction or retraction where necessary.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors of Journal of Communication and Da'wah are entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the quality, fairness, and integrity of the publication process. Editors must:
- Make publication decisions based on the manuscript’s academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, political views, or institutional affiliation.
- Maintain confidentiality by not disclosing information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and editorial board members as appropriate.
- Ensure objectivity and fairness by applying consistent standards of evaluation to all submissions.
- Act on ethical concerns by investigating allegations of research misconduct or unethical practices and taking appropriate corrective measures.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Peer reviewers play a crucial role in safeguarding the scholarly quality of Journal of Communication and Da'wah. Reviewers are expected to:
- Provide objective and constructive feedback that helps improve the quality of the manuscript.
- Maintain confidentiality of the manuscript content and not use unpublished material for personal advantage.
- Declare conflicts of interest and decline review assignments if such conflicts could compromise impartiality.
- Respect deadlines by completing reviews within the agreed time frame to ensure a smooth publication process.
4. Responsibilities of the Publisher
The publisher — Faculty of Da’wah, Universitas Islam Cordoba (UIC) — is responsible for:
- Maintaining editorial independence and supporting editors in making unbiased decisions.
- Ensuring the quality and integrity of the publication process.
- Providing support for ethical best practices, including plagiarism screening, archiving, and ensuring long-term accessibility of published content.
- Promoting open knowledge dissemination by upholding Journal of Communication and Da'wah open access policy.
Through these principles, Journal of Communication and Da'wah seeks to create a trustworthy and transparent academic environment that fosters intellectual exchange, prevents ethical misconduct, and contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Islamic da’wah and communication.
