Author Guidelines

Authors who wish to submit manuscripts to the Journal of Communication and Da’wah are expected to adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a smooth editorial and peer review process:

1. Types of Articles

Journal of Communication and Da’wah welcomes a variety of scholarly contributions, including but not limited to:

  • Empirical Research Articles – based on original data collection and analysis, contributing new insights to the field of da’wah and communication.
  • Conceptual and Theoretical Studies – offering new theoretical frameworks, critical analyses, or conceptual models.
  • Literature Reviews – comprehensive, critical syntheses of current scholarship on relevant topics.
  • Community Service Reports – systematic documentation and reflection on community-based da’wah or communication practices, with clear implications for theory and practice.

2. Language

Manuscripts may be written in Bahasa Indonesia (using proper academic language) or English. Consistency in spelling, grammar, and terminology is required throughout the text.

3. Manuscript Length

Manuscripts should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words, including tables, figures, and references. Longer manuscripts may be considered if they provide substantial scholarly contribution.

4. Manuscript Format

  • Paper Size & Margins: A4 size paper with 2.5 cm margins on all sides.
  • Font & Spacing: Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing, fully justified text.
  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) is preferred.
  • Citation Style: References and in-text citations must strictly follow the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style guide.

5. Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title – concise and informative, maximum 15 words.
  2. Author Information – full name(s), institutional affiliation(s), and email address(es).
  3. Abstract – between 150–250 words, provided in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, summarizing objectives, methods, findings, and key conclusions.
  4. Keywords – 3–5 relevant terms that best represent the content of the manuscript.
  5. Introduction – outlining the background, research problem, objectives, and significance of the study.
  6. Literature Review & Theoretical Framework – discussing relevant previous studies and the theoretical basis guiding the research.
  7. Research Methodology – clearly describing research design, participants, instruments, data collection, and analysis procedures.
  8. Results and Discussion – presenting findings with appropriate tables/figures, and interpreting them in light of existing literature.
  9. Conclusion & Recommendations – summarizing main findings and offering implications for theory, practice, or future research.
  10. Acknowledgements (optional) – recognizing contributions from individuals or institutions that supported the research.
  11. References – listing all cited works in APA 7th Edition format.

6. Ethical Considerations

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration in another journal at the time of submission.
  • Authors must ensure that all data are accurate and that proper permission has been obtained for the use of copyrighted materials.
  • In studies involving human participants, authors must state that ethical approval was obtained (where applicable) and that participants gave informed consent.

7. Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted via the official OJS submission system of Journal of Communication and Da’wah. Authors are encouraged to carefully proofread their work and check compliance with the guidelines before submission to avoid delays in processing.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript to the Journal of Communication and Da’wah, authors are required to ensure compliance with the following requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the authors for correction prior to entering the formal review process.

1. Originality of the Manuscript

  • The submitted work is entirely the original work of the author(s).
  • The manuscript has not been previously published in any form (print or electronic) and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • If elements of the manuscript have been published previously (e.g., conference abstracts), authors must clearly state this and provide proper attribution.

2. Relevance to Journal Scope

  • The manuscript must align with the aims and scope of Journal of Communication and Da’wah, which focuses on:
    • Da’wah theories and practices,
    • Islamic communication,
    • Media and technology in da’wah,
    • Islamic journalism, rhetoric, pesantren studies, and related fields.

3. Compliance with Publication Ethics

  • The manuscript must be free from plagiarism, duplicate submission, and research misconduct (fabrication, falsification, or citation manipulation).
  • Similarity will be screened using Turnitin/iThenticate, and manuscripts exceeding the similarity threshold may be returned for revision or rejected.
  • For research involving human participants, authors must declare that ethical approval (ethical clearance) has been obtained from a recognized ethics committee and that informed consent was secured.

4. Article Formatting and Structure

  • The manuscript must follow the official Journal of Communication and Da’wah template and include the following components in order:
    1. Title (max. 15 words)
    2. Author names, affiliations, and email addresses
    3. Abstract (150–250 words, both in Indonesian and English)
    4. Keywords (3–5 terms)
    5. Introduction
    6. Literature Review / Theoretical Framework
    7. Methodology
    8. Results and Discussion
    9. Conclusion and Recommendations
    10. Acknowledgements (optional)
    11. References (APA 7th Edition)

5. Citations and References

  • All in-text citations and the reference list must strictly follow the APA 7th Edition style.
  • Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure consistency and accuracy.

6. Language and Style

  • The manuscript must be written in formal academic Indonesian or academic English with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Authors should ensure clarity, conciseness, and coherence throughout the manuscript.

7. File Format and Layout

  • The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.
  • Paper size: A4, margin: 2.5 cm on all sides.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, fully justified.

8. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

  • All tables, figures, and images must be numbered sequentially and provided with clear titles and captions.
  • Figures must be of high resolution (minimum 300 dpi) and in a commonly accepted format (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF).
  • Authors must ensure that all illustrations are properly cited if adapted or reproduced from other sources.

9. Copyright and Licensing

  • Upon acceptance, authors agree to transfer copyright to Journal of Communication and Da’wah under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license.
  • This allows others to share and adapt the work provided proper attribution is given and derivative works are licensed under identical terms.
